Abstract
AbstractThe melting behavior of nanoporous‐crystalline (NC) poly(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenylene)oxide (PPO) films is obtained by guest removal from co‐crystalline (CC) films, as crystallized by sorption at different temperatures of liquid guests exhibiting largely different molecular volumes, is discussed. For all the considered guest‐induced crystallizations, the NC α form is obtained with melting temperatures (Tm) being essentially independent of the chemical nature of the guest. Tm of α NC films, as obtained by solution casting, instead widely varies with guest molecular volume (Tm in the range 236–264°C). This difference in the melting behavior of α NC PPO films is obtained by solution casting and guest‐induced crystallization using the same guest is attributed to the kinetics of the crystallization.
