Abstract
AbstractThis article presents mutual coupling reduction results between closely placed ‐coupled patch antennas using complementary electric field coupled (CELC) resonators. CELC elements are excited by the guided magnetic field and exhibit magnetic resonance. Two configurations are designed, analyzed, and fabricated, with one of them having edge‐to‐edge distance and the other having ( is the free space wavelength for the center frequency). Maximum isolation enhancement of about dB and an average of about dB are achieved in measurement for both designs, respectively. Radiation pattern results show no significant change in both co/cross‐polarization. Excellent agreement is achieved between the simulation and measurement results. The proposed structure is etched on the top plate of the substrate and does not involve a complicated fabrication process or any ground plane modification. The proposed design can be used for mutual coupling reduction of ‐plane coupled array antennas.
