Recovery of ureteric function after ureterolysis in malignant retroperitoneal disease

Abstract

Abstract Two cases of ureteric obstruction and anuria are described. Each case was due to disseminated malignant disease. One patient had an ovarian and I a vesical origin. Each patient was treated by extraperitoneal ureterolysis, temporary proximal drainage, and subsequent chemotherapy. Recovery of ureteric function and a period of useful survival were achieved in each case. The use of renography and the place of surgical treatment in malignant ureteric obstruction are briefly discussed.
