Abstract
The use of the Zeiss operation microscope in the preoperative diagnosis of malignant melanomata has given an overal accuracy rate of 85 per cent. The method is quickly and simply carried out, and is without risk to the patient and the operator. The machine is portable and can therefore be used at the bedside in a patient who is not ambulant. Only a normal domestic power supply is required. The use of this machine in the assessment of such cases is therefore advocated.
