Squamous carcinoma of the anus—a review of 96 cases

Abstract

Abstract Ninety-six cases of squamous carcinoma of the anal canal are described; 55 had arisen within the canal and 41 from the margin. The methods of treatment included abdominoperineal resection, local resection, and radiotherapy. The uncorrected 5-year survival time was 42 per cent; the prognosis was better if the tumour arose from the margin than within the canal.
