Abstract
With simpler manufacturing processes and production costs lower than by one‐fifth of those for silicon solar cells, dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are among the most promising technologies of third‐generation cells possessing the capability of producing electricity under cloudy conditions and low or artificial light in comparison to other technologies. Although large‐scale commercialization of DSSCs is inhibited by their low power conversion efficiency. To boost the efficiency, several approaches have been implemented, including 2D phosphorene material, which has attracted interest due to its unique characteristics. Since its synthesis in 2014, the use of 2D phosphorene in various optoelectronic devices, including solar cells, has been widely reviewed in the literature. The deficiency in the availability of full reviews on the integration of 2D phosphorene in DSSCs propels this review to focus on research studies relating to the application of 2D phosphorene in DSSCs.
