Abstract

Cellular glass aggregates made from recycled glass are increasingly used in civil engineering and infrastructure applications. However, as this material is relatively new and innovative, it's necessary to obtain a complete mechanical characterization for its usage in the civil engineering field. In this article, the dynamic properties of cellular glass aggregate are investigated with the aid of a large‐scale triaxial apparatus (300 mm diameter and 600 mm height) under cyclic loading. The experimental procedure for building the samples is presented with a brief description of the test setup. A series of cyclic triaxial tests are performed to characterize and evaluate the dynamic properties of the material, which are of interest in the seismic approach (Young's modulus and damping ratio).
