Abstract
AbstractHot‐rolled steel angles are utilized in various construction systems. This work presents an extensive numerical study on the behavior of hot‐rolled steel angles under concentric and eccentric compression. The numerical results were used for the evaluation of existing design procedures commonly applied in practice. In general, the analytical rules were on safe‐side in most analyzed cases. But in case of angle members in eccentric compression by two bolts, the codes presented very high values for ultimate compressive load capacity. Finally, the study extended the numerical data on the resistance available in the literature and promoted a critical discussion about the ongoing revision of design rules for angles concentrically and eccentrically loaded in compression.
