Abstract
AbstractPolyurethane coatings are a good option for the protection of various structures due to their unique properties. In order to improve their barrier performance against corrosive species, various nanoparticles have been embedded into polymer coating. In this project, the ZSM‐5 zeolite nanoparticles are modified with graphene oxide. Field emission scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy are used for characterizing unmodified and GO‐modified ZSM‐5 zeolites. The effect of ZSM‐5 zeolite and ZSM‐5 zeolite modified with GO addition on the anticorrosion properties of polyurethane (PU) coating is evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, Tafel polarization, and Pull‐off tests. Modification of ZSM‐5 zeolite with GO has greatly influenced the anticorrosion properties of zeolite nanoparticles in polyurethane coatings. Among various PU coatings, the PU/ZSM‐5‐GO coating on mild steel shows the best protective properties (highest Rct and lowest icorr) against active corrosive species.
