Abstract
AbstractMany individuals with type 1 diabetes (T1D) experience a fear of hypoglycaemia (FOH) which can have detrimental consequences on management of blood glucose (BG) levels and quality of life. A cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) graded exposure approach has been recommended to treat FOH. The purpose of this case study is to examine the effectiveness of CBT in treating FOH within the context of a primary care psychological therapy service. It was found that CBT treatment led to: a reduction in threat beliefs related to FOH; lower BG levels; and reduced levels of depression and anxiety. Clinical implications are discussed for treating FOH within primary care. Copyright © 2024 John Wiley & Sons.
