P‐5.23: The Ambient Contrast Ratio of Liquid Crystal Display with Anti‐reflection and Anti‐glare Film

Abstract

In the application of display devices, sunlight readability is one of the common concerns for consumers, especially for mobile display devices. To improve sunlight readability of mobile display devices, a novel Anti‐glare and Low‐reflection (AGLR) film is proposed in this work. The AGLR film was fabricated by a wet coating process onto a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate and was applied into a 15.6‐inch liquid crystal display (LCD). We systematically compare the optical performance of 15.6‐inch LCD with or without an AGLR film and it found that LCD with an AGLR film exhibits excellent optical properties, including low reflectance (<2.95%), high ambient contrast ratio (ACR) under weak ambient light and better anti‐glare with high haze (>50%). A classic theoretical model is used to calculate its optical parameter in this study and we obtain an excellent agreement between the experiment and theory. The proposed AGLR film is expected to widely applications for sunlight readable mobile display devices due to its excellent optical performance and mature production process.
