. Cells of these bacteria are Gram‐stain‐negative, aerobic or facultatively anaerobic, straight or curved rods, motile by flagellum(a). Colonies on marine agar 2216 are circular, smooth, and convex with regular margins. The optimal incubation time for type strains is about 3 days. Most of the members in this genus can reduce nitrate to nitrogen. The major respiratory quinone is Q‐8. Cannot produce menaquinone. The major fatty acids are iso‐C
