Abstract

Abstract Ti.chow.tung.i.a.ce'ae. N.L. fem. n. Tichowtungia, type genus of the family; L. fem. pl. n. suff. ‐ aceae, ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Tichowtungiaceae, family of the genus Tichowtungia . Verrucomicrobiota / Tichowtungiia / Tichowtungiales / Tichowtungiaceae The species in Tichowtungiaceae are anaerobic, nonmotile, coccoid, Gram‐stain‐negative, and isolated from surface marine sediments. They are also non‐spore‐forming and arranged singularly or in pairs. Cells grow poorly under low oxygen conditions. Respiratory lipoquinones are not formed during anaerobic cultivation. The major cellular fatty acids are C 18:0 , iso‐C 12:0 , iso‐C 16:0 , and iso‐C 18:0 . The major polar lipids include diphosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylglycerol. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA genes and genome sequences indicate that Tichowtungiaceae branches within the radiation of the group Kiritimatiellia . The genus Pontiella can be considered to be within the family Tichowtungiaceae based on the positions of Tichowtungia aerotolerans S‐5007 T and species of the genus Pontiella in the phylogenetic tree. However, some authors consider Pontiella a member of a separate family. DNA G + C content (mol%) : 53.1 (genome sequence). Type genus : Tichowtungia Mu et al. 2020 VP .
