Graphic Ethnography

Abstract

The entry explores the growing social scientific field of graphic ethnography. It locates its development in the second decade of the twenty‐first century and outlines some of its incipient characteristics. The entry also reviews the variation in structure and form of graphic‐ethnographic practice and identifies some of its multiple affordances. This examination is undertaken with an eye toward evaluating the analytical versus descriptive potential of the emerging set of practices and its contribution to popularizing anthropology.
