Unprotected left main occlusion: Rare but deadly

Abstract

Key Points A retrospective analysis from four centers in Switzerland and France found unprotected left main coronary artery occlusion (TIMI 0 and 1 Flow) was rare (0.1%) but carried a high in‐hospital mortality rate (42%). The long‐term survival of discharged patients was relatively good. Due to the acuity and infrequency of the condition, observational studies remain the primary source of clinical guidance, acknowledging the presence of survival biases and confounding factors. Successful timely revascularization with percutaneous coronary intervention continues to be the preferred management.
