Abstract
In seeking to understand women's social location in society, cultural feminism relies on critiquing essentialist understandings of men and women as the foundation of women's subordination. While there is great variety within this branch of feminism, the main areas of scholarship focus on (1) the redefinition of femininity and masculinity; (2) the development of women's culture; and (3) the examination of sexuality.
