Abstract
Housework, along with carework, is a part of domestic labor. Housework refers to paid and unpaid labor performed to maintain a home, and includes cleaning, buying groceries, cooking, and doing laundry. The research on housework is historical and sociological, and traces housework back to the preindustrial economy. More contemporary research on housework examines satisfaction, time availability, and gender ideologies in the context of more diverse family forms and considers the impact of COVID‐19 on the household.
