Abstract
AbstractThe concept of free community college has critics from the left and right that question its long‐term viability and effectiveness. This chapter provides a discussion to enhance understanding of the criticism against the free community college movement and situate these arguments in the larger discourse on free community college programs. Specific attention focuses on recognizing critical viewpoints, understanding their arguments, and providing responses for institutional and policy decision‐makers in their advocacy for free community college programs. The chapter addresses a range of perspectives that critics argue, including economic, workforce, equity, quality, and outcome issues related to offering free community college.
