Abstract
AbstractA theoretical treatment is given for the kinetics of two round solid plates approaching in a liquid. The one of the plates is planar, the other spherically formed. Especially that case is considered where the viscosity of the liquid in the region between the solid surfaces is enhanced at small plate distances because of a molecular long range orientation.For the solution of the problem two parameters are used which can be determined knowing definite experimental data. An exponential increase of the viscosity with decreasing plate distance is assumed. The relations obtained are the basis for an experimental method to determine the viscosity of interfacial liquid zones in the neighbourhood of a solid surface.
