AbstractThe17O nmr of methanol‐17O and ethanol‐17O for extremely slow and very fast exchange of the hydroxyl proton has been investigated. In the case of slow exchange for methanol and ethanol a doublet was observed. A line shape analysis yielded for the spin‐spin coupling constants:J(methanol) = 85.5 Hz andJ(ethanol) = 83.6 Hz.17O correlation times and their connection with related times given in the literature are discussed. A comparison of the temperature dependence of the relaxation rates with those of similar molecular processes indicates a temperature dependence of the quadrupole coupling constant.
