1. English translations of Russian and East European work are published in Xeroxed typescript by the U. S. Department of Commerce, Office of Technical Services, Joint Publications Research Service (JPRS) Building T-30, Ohio Drive and Independence Ave., S.W., Washington 25, D.C. Numbers prefixed by JPRS in the references below refer to their listings. Many libraries carry listings of all these translations, with periodical updating. (Many American journals, such as those of the IEEE, the Bell Technical Laboratories, and the Franklin Institute, are reproduced in Moscow and are widely available in the USSR within four months of publication in the USA. Most Russian scientists seem to have at least a reading knowledge of technical English.)
