Abstract

Abstract This chapter contains information on glass wool only. Chemical and physical properties, production and use, workplace assessment of exposure, assessment of toxic effects, and regulatory classifications are given. In October 2001, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) re‐classified glass wool and other commercially available insulation wools as Group 3 (not classifiable as to its carcinogenicity in humans), i.e., not suspected of causing cancer in humans. Current regulatory guidance and the health classifications for biosoluble glass wools used in the United States and Europe show no concerns for human carcinogenicity, and exposure levels are very low.
