Abstract

AbstractThe reaction of dimethyl 3,5‐dioxopimelate, a readily available 1,3,5,7‐tetracarbonyl compound, with benzyne resulted in formation of a highly functionalized naphthalene derivative which is formed by an unprecedented domino ‘insertion / aldol condensation’ reaction.
