Abstract
AbstractMolecules containing bipyridine scaffold are fascinating and versatile compounds in the field of natural product chemistry and drug discovery, and these molecules have possible therapeutic applications due to possession of potent biological activities such as antimicrobial, immunomodulatory, antitumor, and phytotoxic. Significant efforts have been devoted to isolating various 2,2′ bipyridine compounds from natural sources, with antimicrobial, anti‐cancer, and immunosuppressive properties. This review describes recent developments in isolation from different microbial origins, synthesis, and investigation of different kinds of biological activities of 2,2′ bipyridines, with a particular emphasis on caerulomycins, collismycins, and related derivates thereof in detail.
