Abstract

Abstract Originating in early nineteenth‐century Europe, socialism achieved its greatest global presence in the thirty years after the Second World War. In the last quarter of the twentieth century, and particularly following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, its influence declined. Nevertheless, it remains a major political doctrine.
