Abstract

Human haptic systems such as hand and skin are capable of material classification and texture recognition with a slight training effort where the mechanoreceptor first collects the tactile information, secondly, the nerves and neurons deliver the message and finally, the somatosensory cortex in the brain computes and makes a decision. In this work, we attempt to build a machine haptic system to mimic functions of skin and nervous system for material classification and recognition.
