Abstract
SummaryOver a 25 year period, 2.4 per cent of Birmingham medical students developed psychiatric disorder which was severe enough to cause loss of time from the course; 1 per cent of the total required hospital admission. One-third of the psychiatrically ill students did not graduate, but those who did were as likely as graduates who had not been ill to remain on the Medical Register.
