Abstract
SummaryPrevention of mental disorders can be effective, but is rarely implemented in routine settings. Here we propose a matrix to show how different aspects of stigma, discrimination and lack of knowledge can hinder different types of prevention, including early intervention. Programmes to reduce stigma's impact and so to facilitate prevention are needed.
