SummaryThis paper analyses the legal and other social conditions under which the concept of ‘psychopathic personality disorder’ continues to play a strategic part in both the repeated imprisonment of female petty offenders and in the justifications put forward for the rigidity of the disciplinary regimes in women's prisons.
