Soil temp resulting in greatest root growth was generally lower than the soil temp resulting in greatest top growth. Roots produced at low soil temp were whiter, more succulent, thicker, and had fewer lateral roots than those produced at higher temp. Increased soil temp resulted in greater water use. Soil temp also influenced mineral content of the top.
