Several exploratory borings for oil in the north Aquitaine basin, France, have reached and penetrated the rocks underlying the Permo-Triassic and Jurassic formations. In places the substratum consists of metamorphic formations, in others of Paleozoic formations that can be dated by macrofaunas.
