Abstract
Abstract
Concludes that serpentinites of central New Caledonia are products of metamorphism (pseudomorphic serpentinization) of certain preexisting rocks (mainly volcanic rocks, particularly andesites), during which metallic ions, particularly magnesium ions, were added or concentrated, probably by diffusion processes. Peridotites were formed by a similar process of metamorphism of similar preexisting rocks, but in a zone of slightly higher temperature and pressure.
