Abstract
Abstract
The conditions of formation of so-called rudistid reefs are studied by means of examples from France, Serbia, and Italian Somaliland. In Jurassic and lower Cretaceous time rudistids were merely associated with reef-forming corals; in the upper Cretaceous they were seldom associated with corals but usually formed independent populations whose individuals either constituted a bioherm or were more or less isolated. The term "rudistid beds" is preferable to "reefs" for their structures.
