Abstract

Subject. Bifurcation changes in the economy due to scientific and technological progress, industrial development and population growth. Objectives. Allocation of groups of regions of Russia depending on economic and environmental parameters. Methods. Methods of groupings, classification, system and complex analysis, expert assessments are used. Results. The regions of Russia are classified according to the following characteristics: gross regional product per capita; foreign trade turnover; monetary incomes of the population; discharge of contaminated wastewater into surface water bodies; emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere departing from stationary sources; potential region (distribution of grants); sustainability of development (socio-economic and environmental). It is revealed that in Russia there are practically no regions where the volume of gross regional product per capita is higher than the average; most regions of Russia have a low level of foreign trade turnover. There is an interregional differentiation according to a number of criteria, which can be the cause of the "breakdown" of the single socio-economic space. Conclusions. The results obtained can be used in the development of targeted regional programs and strategies for socio-economic development.
