Laboratory Evaluation of Vibration Isolation of Dynamic Loads Caused by Machine Foundations by Surface Trenches

Abstract

Measures should be taken to prevent the effects of vibration caused by dynamic loads of machines. Research has shown that trenches can effectively reduce vibrations caused by machine foundations. It has been determined that the open trench provides the best performance against vibration, but it is not practical due to operational limitations. Considering environmental concerns and vibration absorption, rubber crumb can effectively combine with sand in trenches. Combining rubber crumbs and sandy soil in the trenches reduces vibration from industrial machines and promotes the reuse of rubber waste. This article examines how surface trenches filled with a sand and rubber crumb mixture can reduce the vibrations of industrial foundations. This research focuses more on vibrations and high strains, and vibrating foundations have been used for vibration. The study aimed to determine the impact of trench dimensions on insulation levels. The results indicated that trench length and depth had a significant effect, while thickness did not have a noticeable impact. The study also examined different trenches with varying combinations of crumb rubber to determine their isolation level. The trenches contained 30%, 20%, and 10% crumb rubber by weight, and the average isolation values were 58.20%, 56.33%, and 50.29%, respectively. The results were then compared with each other.
