AbstractNicknames of women on the Falkland Islands, like most nicknames, derive from physical traits, incidents or early experiences, childhood characteristics, behavior, and other sources and are used both as terms of reference and terms of address. The Falklands are unusual in having a large number of nicknames for women. Most of these epithets are given by men and continue as a means both of social integration and social control.
