Heterocyclic compounds and their derivatives epitomize the building blocks of many biological
entities, e.g., alkaloids, antibiotics, enzymes, hormones, vitamins, and others that are abundant in
nature. The Vilsmeier-Haack reaction has fascinated organic chemists due to its significant use in the
synthesis of numerous heterocycles. This analytical evaluation provides a scrutinized overview of the
literature on the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds.
