Abstract
The general in-plane response of a rotating disc is considered. Forward and backward travelling circumferential waves occur and are shown to have velocities that depend upon the disc speed Ω. The orthogonality and stability of these waves have been determined. The motion caused by externally applied body forces is calculated and used to predict the conditions that give resonance.
