Abstract
Dimensionless results describing the plane-stress creep behaviour of thin discs with a central rigid insert are presented. The results are non-dimensional with respect to a ‘reference stress' which is dependent on the geometry of the disc and the applied loads. To convert the dimensionless results into real terms all that is required is a knowledge of the creep strain-time response associated with the reference stress. The approach is applicable for variable, as well as steady, loading. In addition, it has been found that the dimensionless results associated with various different unit loading cases may be superimposed to give results applicable for a combined load case. This important result is a consequence of the approach used in non-dimensioning the problem.
