Abstract
Two-layer metallic sheets are increasingly used in industrial and domestic parts. Their advantages include an increased wear and corrosion resistance, sound and vibration damping, uniform temperature distribution due to the different heat expansion coefficients of the layers, decreased spring back and wrinkling, and finally reduced weight and cost. In this paper the formability of two-layer Al1100-St12 sheet is investigated. Theoretical and experimental approaches have been used to obtain the forming limit diagram of the two-layer Al1100-St12 sheet, and the obtained results are compared. Also the forming limit diagram of the two-layer sheet is compared with the formability of its metallic components. Results show a good agreement between theoretical and experimental results. It is also shown that the two-layer metallic sheet formability is better than its lower formability component.
