Abstract
Shortage of independent control signals limits the ‘cleverness’ of externally powered limbs. Surface methods of sensing muscle activity give very crude reproduction. Implanted sensors ought to extract some of the untapped skill of muscles, and help establish how it may be applied. The Emgor is a sensor for myoelectric signals which is intended to be permanently implantable, with this aim in view. The paper describes the sensor and its associated electronics, and gives details of its performance.
