Abstract
An analysis is presented for unstiffened circular cylindrical vessels subjected to non-rotationally symmetric and/or local loading. The analysis has been employed to develop a rigorous solution for saddle supported vessels mounted on saddles which are either loose or welded to the vessel. An illustrative example is included to demonstrate the validity and application of the analysis and typical results presented for the saddle supported vessels problem. The document extends previous work (1)† to take full account of saddle flexibility and is published in parallel with a second paper (2) which compares theory with experiment.
