Abstract
Some values of the compression index obtained by digital-computer integration of the first law of thermodynamics, with allowance for variable gas properties and for heat transfer between charge and walls, are first presented and discussed. These show the effects of some of the common fuel gases, and the changes produced by variations of engine geometry and running conditions. An approximate calculation method suitable for manual computation is also described.
