The Receptances of Uniform and Non-Uniform Rotating Shafts

Abstract

Expressions are found for the receptances of flexible rotating shafts. They are in series form and are expressed in terms of characteristic functions whose derivations and properties are explained. A knowledge of these receptances is all that is needed as regards the shaft in a theoretical discussion of any system of which the shaft forms part; in particular they permit the investigation of the motion at critical speeds and the stability of shafts in flexible bearings.
