Determination of daily volume of pumped water as a function of mechanical energy from a photovoltaic water-pumping system

Abstract

A technique that estimates the output of a photovoltaic (PV) water-pumping system from a database of monthly average daily insolation would be very useful for design studies of PV water-pumping systems. Here a simple algorithm has been presented to estimate the long-term average performance of a directly coupled PV pumping system by using monthly average daily insolation. The mechanical energy available at the shaft of the PV motor pump has been found by using the utilizability concept. Then an analytical relation between mechanical energy, volume of pumped water and water head has been developed.
