Abstract

This paper presents an analytic approach for obtaining the contact shear traction in cylindrical contact during a fretting fatigue test under conditions of partial reverse slip. The case of a cylinder on plane contact is considered. The stress distribution at the contact area is generated by a normal load and a tangential load in addition to the bulk stress of the specimen. The bodies are supposed to be elastically similar and behave as infinite half-planes. The paper presents the equations governing the problem of cylindrical contact with partial slip and a solution that fulfills these equations is proposed. The validity of the approach has been verified and compared to the numerical solutions available in the literature.
