Abstract
The aim of this work was to determine assembly stresses in taper-locking assemblies, to seek simple methods of calculating the important stresses and to test their validity. Four models were analysed: a coupling only, two models with hollow shafts and one on a solid shaft, surrounded by a hub. Hoop-radial maximum shear stresses were compared with thick-cylinder calculations. There was good agreement except for the frictional effects due to circumferential sliding of slit rings between continuous (unslit) rings.
