Modelling the dynamics of misaligned helical gears with loss of contact

Abstract

Misaligned helical gears generate vibration, which under light load can cause loss of contact of the teeth. Conventional frequency domain methods are not satisfactory for predicting loads and vibration. A basic approach is described and the corresponding program is given together with some typical results.
