Abstract
A fully three-dimensional computer simulation has been made of the dynamic behaviour of an airborne target towed by a tug aircraft via a cable, which has experienced problems in flight. The basic dynamics of the system are described and compared with the improvements that may be achieved both by passive modifications and by using active control of the target. The passive measures have been shown to have little significant effect, but active control, using tug/target relative velocity components for the error signal, has shown great improvement in the predicted behaviour.
