Abstract
An idealized multi-strain potential model is presented. Qualitatively, it is shown to represent, through rigid kinematic translation, the anisotropic hardening behaviour for prestrained metallic materials in the Bauschinger effect, unloading-reloading hysteresis, plastic strain path rotation with fading memory and features of cyclic plasticity under load and strain control. Respective comparisons made with experimental observations suggest a translation model further modified with rotation, contraction and expansion along the prestress vector in the absence of cross-hardening. Equivalence considerations reveal that such refinements can conveniently be made to the model from reversed loading experiments under tension and torsion.
